PM urges proactive response to floods, landslides in northern provinces

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered ministries and localities to take proactive measures in response to torrential rain, landslides, and flooding in the northern region ahead of heavy rains forecast from August 11 to 15.

Vietnamese Embassy monitors Kursk, prepares evacuation plan

The Vietnamese Embassy in Russia is fully prepared to evacuate Vietnamese residents in Kursk to safer places if necessary while closely monitoring the escalating conflict in the scene of fighting after the Ukrainian incursion last week. About 140 Vietnamese nationals live in Kursk.

Quang Tri's 'Immortal Epic' honors war heroes

The "Immortal Epic" art program on August 11 in Quang Tri honored the sacrifices of soldiers during the war. Held at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, a historical site where intense battles took place in 1972, the event commemorated the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Accords. It celebrated the resilience of past generations and inspired today's youth to continue building a peaceful Vietnam.

Vietnam strengthens vessel monitoring to remove EU 'yellow card"

The Vietnamese government has ordered ministries and provinces to improve the national vessel monitoring system (VMS), ensure 24/7 data connectivity, and take stricter measures to ensure fishing vessels comply with the rules. These steps are critical to removing the EU's "yellow card" on Vietnam's seafood exports. An EU delegation will conduct its fifth inspection in October 2024 to assess Vietnam's compliance with regulations on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Korean-Vietnamese children invited to visit South Korea

Ten Korean-Vietnamese children will be invited to visit South Korea from August 12 to 14, according to the South Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. The program, which is being held for the first time, is aimed at children whose parents are divorced or deceased. It will include several activities, such as trips to cultural heritage sites, science museums and universities, or trips to the Korean Cultural Village in Gyeonggye Province, Gyeongbuk Palace and employment centers.

Vietnamese tourism and culture promotion space opened in Brunei

The Vietnamese Embassy in Brunei opened on August 11 a space to promote Vietnamese tourism and culture. According to Ambassador Tran Anh Vu, the mission will show videos introducing Vietnamese travel destinations, focusing on famous places in central Vietnam such as Danang, Ninh Thuan, and Khanh Hoa.

Vegetable export turnover reaches US$3.8 billion from January to July

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, fruit and vegetable export turnover from January to July increased by 23.4% year-on-year to US$3.8 billion. China led the markets spending US$2.1 billion, up 22% year-on-year, followed by South Korea with $164 million, up 57.9%.

Rare turtle found in Ha Tinh Province

An endangered and rare Indotestudo elongata turtle was found in the central province of Ha Tinh on August 11.

The yellow creature weighs 0.4 kg and is in good health. The animal belongs to a species listed in Group IIB of the Vietnam Red Book and is classified as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Khanh Hoa to host Golden Kite Film Awards 2024

The Golden Kite Awards 2024 will run from September 3 to 10 in Nha Trang City in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

According to the Vietnam Cinema Association, this year's event registered the highest number of films, with 161 cinematic works of various kinds, confirming the growing reputation of the Golden Kite Awards. It is a great tourism opportunity for Nha Trang City with world-class beaches.

Painting exhibition showcases memories of Hanoi, imperial city of Hue

A watercolor painting exhibition featuring memories of Hanoi's Old Quarter and the imperial city of Hue opened at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi from August 10 to 18.

The event presents over 30 watercolor paintings by 28-year-old painter Doan Quoc from the central province of Quang Ngai as a lens into the past, telling unique stories of Vietnam's two famous cities.
